Capoeira Capoeira is a 400-year-old martial art that blends music, dance, singing, and acrobatics to create a holistic approach to teaching self-defense. Originating in Africa, Capoeira was brought to Brazil by captured slaves from Angola. Wanting to teach their form of martial arts, but prohibited by their Brazilian masters, a new art was formed. Capoeira is the basis for modern day hip-hop and break dancing, and is the perfect way to supplement those art forms.
This exciting art is now available at Coquille Martial Arts, taught by Forest Freeman who has been practicing the art for over 20 years. Class are held on Mondays at 5:30 and Thursdays at 5pm. Class is open to both children and adults. Whether you are looking for an exciting new way to exercise, a way to improve your existing martial arts and dance, or just want to see what is being drummed up, come give capoeira a try.
